Gold On The Wind belongs to the familiar genre of the goldrush adventure. The cover illustration, wooden and amateurish, gives fair indication of the style within. Rob, waiting for his family to arrive from England, joins the trek to the newly discovered Victorian gold fields. In the course of his journey he teams up with Mutt (of the red hair), a Newcastle gutter-snipe, and renews a previous friendship with an American adventurer, who is thereafter conveniently on hand to act as rescuer whenever the plot gets sticky.
