But Is This Politically Correct?

The spectre of the politically correct looms nowhere so large as in the area of children’s writing. On a Writers tour to Wagga Wagga last year, I asked a number of children’s authors how it had affected their work. They each hung their heads and morosely told me about life inside the straitjacket where not only do you have to be aware of race, sex, and gender, but food is also a problem. Even Hazel Edwards has copped the slings and arrows of disappoval about the cake her hippopotamuses enjoy. Please.
